March

2008

3rd March 2008 - Sudeley Castle would like to invite you to come and play with them at the Official Opening Party on Monday 3rd March at 12 noon.

The wooden fort, first opened by Henry Dent-Brocklehurst in 1975 when he was just 9 years old, was much loved by children visiting the Castle and has been sadly missed throughout 2007 whilst it has been closed. The new Play Area is bigger, better and loads more fun.
Over 15 tons of wood and 11,000 screws have been used to make a new fort, climbing towers, a slide and even a zip wire.

Tradition has it that William Shakespeare was born on 23rd April, three days prior to his baptism recorded at Holy Trinity Church in 1564. The 23rd April is also the date of his death in Stratford aged 52. Shakespeare’s birthday was first celebrated in 1824 with a procession through the streets to Holy Trinity Church, a dinner and a few speeches. Over the years the tradition has grown to include many of the unique features that are still integral to the celebrations today.

The course is 280 yards long up and down a hill which has a 1 in 4 gradient, so the men's record of 3.5 minutes is no mean feat!
The Woolsack Races form the central attraction of a fund-raising day which includes an all-day street market, a charity auction, a village fete, street entertainers, marching bands and more entertainment for all the family.

Stop for lunch in picturesque Chipping Campden and enjoy the chocolate box characteristics of the town. After lunch you’ll climb up to Dover’s Hill before embarking on a downhill ramble back to the Cotswold Conference Centre on Farncombe Estate. For anyone wishing to experience England at its best then this is the walk for you.

By stepping out and getting involved your fundraising and support will help Campaign build a brighter future for people with breast cancer. Saturday 7th June - Southrop Village Fête

Southrop Village Fête takes place on Saturday 7th June and this years’ event has a “country” theme. There’ll be a host of related activities including falconry and dressage displays, pony and trap rides, beagles, vintage tractors, woodlice racing and the regular array of stalls and attractions (splat the rat, coconut shy, tombola, hook the duck, children’s playground, teas and cakes, strawberries and ice creams, a hog roast, Pimms tent and the locally renowned duck race).

Southrop’s is a quintessential village fête and one of the most impressive in the area (it raised more than £10,000 pounds last year). It’s staged within the grounds of the Manor, in the heart of the village and is usually a great day out for the whole family. There’s also the chance to win some fabulous prizes in the Grand Prize Draw, which in previous years, have included an autographed football by David Beckham and one of 10 places on an RAF refueling flight over the North Sea.

All proceeds from the event go towards Southrop Village Hall and School, and St. Peter’s Church, so you’ll also be supporting three very worthy local causes.  The event takes place on 7th June at the Manor in Southrop.  Gates open at 1pm.  Admission is £1 for adults and 50p for children.

For further information please contact Trevor Mehtar (mobile: 07980 786 850 or email; Trevor@emo.uk.com).
